What is The Great Barrier Reef? (GBR)
The GRB is said to be the rainforest of the sea. In fact, it is 1 of 7 natural wonders of the world and can be seen from space. This is the largest living structure on the planet and it's about 500,000 years old(1). This system is rich in life, hosting more animal species than any other marine ecosystem. They also host the most marine plants that are responsible for producing the oxygen we breathe today.
Some other benefits of the GBR include protecting the coastlines, water purification, absorption of carbon dioxide, supports healthy fishing industries, climate tracking, and medical research to treat asthma, arthritis, heart disease, and cancer amongst others(2).
Unfortunately, In the past three decades, it has lost half its coral cover, pollution has caused deadly starfish outbreaks, and global warming has produced horrific coral bleaching. Coastal development also looms as a major threat(3).
With the marine life and other benefits the GBR possesses, our next activewear release will symbolize this living structure, to raise awareness with it's mesmerizing corals reefs, along with it's soft white and bright brown colored sand. Portion of the profits of this release will go towards an organization to help protect the GBR life.
